This blog is dedicated to preserving the voices of men and women who lived through the Napoleonic Wars. It's primary goal is to publicize little known memoirs, diaries, letters and other primary sources in order to enrich our understanding of the past.
“Human life is short and fleeting, and many millions of individuals, who share in it, are swallowed by that monster of oblivion which is waiting for them with ever-open jaws. It is thus a very thank-worthy task to try to rescue something— – the memory of interesting and important events, or the leading features and personages of some epoch— – from the general shipwreck of the world.” Arthur Schopenhauer

Welcome!
Welcome to my blog. I hope to attract people who are interested in the Revolutionary Era (1789-1815) and want to gain insights and fresh perspectives from the pages of little known memoirs, diaries and letters. I have been studying the Revolutionary Era for over a decade now and have amassed considerable collection of primary sources, some of which I published in recent years (see a list of publication to the right). But there are many documents that never made it into a book and this blog offers perfect means of publicizing them. Due to my specialization, the blog will focus more on the Russian and French participants but I will do my best to incorporate memoirs and diaries of other participants as well. Unless otherwise noted, all translations belong to me and cannot be used for commercial purposes without my consent.
